Helen Aizelwood, Bariatric Lead Nurse
Alexandra Hospital, Cheadle
Helen took the post as bariatric lead nurse at the Alexandra Hospital in November 2009, having previously worked as a sister on various wards in the hospital. She has developed the lead nurse role since that time with the help of the dietetic team and specialist physiotherapist. Helen feels that the Alexandra Hospital has an excellent multi-disciplinary team, which is able to fully support the patients following weight loss surgery.
Suzanne Egan, Bariatric Nurse
Spire Manchester Hospital
Suzanne qualified as Enrolled Nurse General in 1981 at Stepping hill Hospital Stockport and was employed on a General Medical ward. She returned to study and proceeded to complete her Registered General nurse qualification in 1983, when she returned to a general medicine environment as Staff Nurse.
Suzanne joined Spire Manchester in 2001 as a Staff Nurse on the General Surgical ward. Her role was to care for patients who’d had a range surgical procedures and since she joined Spire she’s learnt to mentor student nurses and the bariatric link ward nurse. During this time she was promoted to senior staff nurse and then ward sister.
Suzanne joined the Bariatric department as specialist nurse in September 2011, and since then she has acquired knowledge and skills that allow her to advise and care for our Bariatric patients. She is continuing to build her bariatric knowledge and skills as joint team lead at the hospital with her colleague Jennie Taylor, the dietitian at the hospital.
